The Secret of Storybrooke, Maine

By W. R. Miller on February 13, 2012

How would you like to visit Storybrooke, Maine, where ABC-TV’s Once Upon a Time takes place?  Well, you can, except it’s not in Maine.  It’s not even in southern California.  It’s actually  in Canada.  To be precise, it’s Steveston, British Columbia, where the location shooting is done.  Steveston is now incorporated into Richmond, near Vancouver.

Here’s the location used in the February 12 episode, “Skin Deep,” and in the season one finale, “A Land without Magic.” It’s Moncton St & 2 Ave, Richmond, BC V7E.  Note “Marine Garage” on the right.  Yes, the same Marine Garage seen in the series. To the left is the clock tower building.

Much of the shooting is along Moncton St.  Some enterprising fans, “Once Upon a Time Fan Podcast,”  have established a webpage, which spotlights these locations along with how they correlate with Storybrooke.

Here’s a video that shows how the town is dressed for shooting the show:

I would imagine Steveston/Richmond will experience an upsurge in tourism before long.
